Why don’t you join local groups like cycling groups or even Christian groups.
Being around people who care is often the best treatment for depression.
If you’ve lost someone having faith can always help too.

One thing is true from which we can’t escape; if we overindulge in anything at all we may suffer the consequences. Like sadness, if we’re feeling sad for too long for whatever reason, or have experienced damaging emotional trauma and don’t deal with it, we’re in danger of inducing real depression upon our selves.
You can’t beat a good diet, keeping the mind exploratory and the brain healthy which we need in order to discover and drive our goals, also to find a little enjoyment in life from time to time.
Negative mentality and emotions can give rise to a capricious mind – pondering on negative thoughts and bad ideas.
We need our minds to envisage, not to see!

Keep it real, avoid drink and drugs, find some enjoyment in something once in a while.
It’s amazing how many of us beat our heads against walls (Minds in boxes, TV is poisonous), when just down the road from will be rolling country side with amazing views, running streams, and lakes.
Mountain biking or cycling clubs are great, camping out, fishing, walks along the hills and mountains, walks along a beach, photography, this is our true nature. (Stay safe!)

Keep fit, read books, create poetry, art or learn a musical instrument, then give what you have to others because creating is really good for us. (This is good for humility too, what we give to others we give to our selves)

“All that we are is the result of what we have thought. If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him, like a shadow that never leaves him.”
Gautama Buddha. (aprox 563-483 BC).

As we are so we see: First Epistle: John 4
16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.

It’s hard to answer when I don’t know which one you are going on and how much you’ll be taking. Some of them make you zombie like but I’ve been on many different ones and most of them don’t or if they do you just take them at night. They wont help you forget your broken heart, you’ll just feel better able to deal with it.

Anti depressants stop you feeling depressed and the implication is that they motivate and energise you out of your morose depression. Depressants like alchohol, sedate you and put you in a zombie state. Both are appropriate at certain points in your life.

I think you need to read more widely and better understand that medications never heal a broken heart.

Acceptance, vision and desire move you on from where you are.
